It would be a cliché to call Fiji the perfect island paradise, but in reality, it is all of that and more!
Fiji epitomizes all that the South Pacific is popular for – pristine beaches, turquoise waters, gorgeous rainforests abound with waterfalls, stunning coral and marine life, and extremely warm, ever-smiling and hospitable people you will ever come across!
I was lucky that my wife and I chose Fiji as our honeymoon destination and spent 10 nights in different regions and resorts. My favourite by far was Namale Resort & Spa (www.namalefiji.com) in Savusavu. Before I went to Fiji, I had the impression of it being just another beach destination – lovely sandy beaches, blue waters, sun, good food and cocktails and maybe a few activities thrown in. But Namale is all of that and much much more!
Firstly the setting is pretty magical; perfectly set with the rain forest in the background and the ocean sprawled out before it making it the harmonious balance between land and water. We unfortunately had only 4 days at this beautiful resort and made the most of it!
Secondly the variety of activities that we were offered was unbelievable! Being experienced divers, we chose to go diving and snorkeling in the daytime…I would recommend this to everybody as the marine life and corals you see in Fiji will be nothing like anything you have seen before! It’s nothing short of a cacophony of the most brilliant colours and forms you will set your eyes on! Once you dive here, you will totally relate to the boat scene in the film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara! We were very lucky to even spot pilot whales and a turtle on our way back from diving.
When we were not diving under or floating above the water trying to quench our thirst for the marine life, we went to the spa (again an absolute must-do!) or went horse riding or bowling in the activity center. And the evenings were of course reserved for the stunning sunsets while sipping on cocktails or our favourite wines. Oh, I did forget to mention that Namale (www.namalefiji.com) is an all-inclusive resort in Fiji where all three meals plus alcohol and snacks are included in the package!
Thirdly, this place will make you feel like a king and a queen! I mean literally. They have a waterfall within their property and they surprised us by setting-up a full-fledged breakfast for us one morning overlooking this waterfall. One night we had dinner in a seaside cave, lit up with just the right amount of candles! We had lunch on the deck overlooking an ocean blow-hole…once it was served to us in a beautiful beach cabana. I mean this place will make you a romantic even if you’re not one!
Last but not the least, the service standards at this property are just on another level. From the ladies at the reception to the buggy drivers to the waiters, waitresses and bartenders, the dive team of course, the general managers, the spa ladies and all the other people working in this slice of paradise will spoil you and, may just make you cry (it’s not just the soulful farewell song they sing for you) when you check-out and it’s time to leave.
There are a ton of other small surprises that Namale will throw at you but I won’t tell you all of it here. But I will definitely tell you to visit Namale Resort & Spa to find out for yourself…I’m sure the experience will be nothing short of spell binding.
